It's too darn hot around here to do anthing else but sit and read. It was almost unbearable to ride in the van to get to the library. But, we did it! And we learned that we had a $4.10 fine to pay.
The librarian chick asked me if I'd like a receipt and I said, "Why? Is it tax-deductible?" She didn't even smile. I took that as a "No." I suppose the extra $400.00 in property taxes I was assessed this year to help pay for the new library does not exempt me from late fees. I also asked if my payments could accrue and possibly be used to purchase a new desk or sitting chair for the new library. It was a rough audience.
Is there not such a thing as a librarian with a sense of humor?
